A very sought after item.
The long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series, first published in 1995 and now in its third cycle, honors the animals of the Chinese zodiac with a catalog of annual designs. The strengths of the 12 animals of the lunar calendar are said to be evident in those born during their rule. Fourth in line after the mouse, ox and tiger, the rabbit is said to bestow intelligence, creativity, vigilance and compassion on those born under its influence in 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011 and 2023. Because of the 2 oz size’s limited mintage, it is extremely sought-after and is likely to sell out easily. The coins are strictly struck from 99.99 percent pure silver and are issued under the Australian Currency Act 1965 as legal tender.
The reverse: The coin features a stunning new reverse design of a dragon with water cascading from its mouth, stylised waves, and a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. The Chinese character for “dragon,” the inscription “DRAGON 2024,” and a “P125” mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary are also included in the design.
The obverse: of the coin bears the Jody Clark Memorial Obverse of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supplemented with the dates of her reign “1952-2022,” as well as the weight and fineness, and the monetary denomination.
